About the event
WHY REPAIR CLOTHING? An extraordinary amount of energy, materials, water, and pollution goes into making every piece of clothing. From raw material extraction, clothing manufacturing, dyeing, and processing to shipping these materials globally to distributors, malls or even your front door, the fashion industry accounts for nearly 10% of the world's carbon emissions, contributing to our changing and destabilizing climate. By repairing items we already own and extending their lives instead of giving in to the temptation of fast fashion, we can save money and reduce the harmful impacts on the environment that sustains us.
JOIN THE CLOTHING REPAIR FAIR!
🧵Register to receive free basic clothing repairs/mending to keep your clothing in use longer (e.g. buttons, seams, holes, adding elastic/snaps, etc.).
👕Learn basic hand-stitching techniques to do your own simple repairs in the future.
🪡Want to help? Can you teach others to sew a button or mend a hole? Or do you have a sewing machine and know how to sew? We are looking for volunteers who can sew!
PLEASE REGISTER: If you would like to have your clothes mended and/or would like to volunteer, please register.
⚠️DISCLAIMER: Repair services will be completed by volunteers at no cost. Therefore, satisfaction is not guaranteed. Use services at your own risk.
This event is co-hosted by the City of Windsor Environment & Climate Change Advisory Committee, PurposeLink, Downtown Windsor Community Collaborative and Windsor of Change.
